Associate Director of Intensive English Program in UNT

The University of North Texas (UNT), one of the fastest growing universities in Texas, seeks a dynamic and experienced international education professional to serve as Associate Director of the Intensive English Language Institute. With over 34,000 students, including 2400 international students from more than 120 countries, visiting scholars and faculty from more than 50 countries, and global learning and experience programs in more than 37 nations, UNT, already a leader in international higher education, has, in its Strategic Plan 2008-2013, established goals to increase the international student population and expand international study and global experiential learning opportunities for students.

UNT International (UNT-I) is a multi-faceted department which maintains six units to serve UNT students, faculty and staff. UNT International works cooperatively with all departments to develop international activity and exchanges with universities around the world. The Intensive English Language Institute has been teaching students since 1977 with 400 current students from more than 25 countries.

Established in 1977 and accredited by the Commission on ESL Program Accreditation (CEA), IELI seeks to provide the highest quality academic preparatory English language training for international students seeking admission to the University of North Texas or other U.S. institutions of higher education. In addition, the IELI provides appropriate student services for international students living in the United States.

The Associate Director of the Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) will assist the IELI director in the development and implementation of strategic planning for the IELI program. The Associate Director of IELI will serve as one of the key members of the IELI Executive Team and will contribute in the development, implementation, and maintenance of IELI policies, procedures and processes.

UNT-I is led by the Vice Provost and Associate Vice President for International Education and two Assistant Vice Provosts. The Associate Director of IELI reports to the Director of IELI. The successful candidate will be an energetic and skilled professional with demonstrated experience in ESL program development and a commitment to providing quality services. It is essential that the candidate possess the temperament to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment and possess the technological skills to oversee the automation of many processes.

UNT is located in Denton, Texas, a suburban community at the northern apex of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and the sixth largest metropolitan area in the United States. Requirements:

Qualified applicants will possess a Master’s degree in TESL, Linguistics or International Education Administration; a minimum of one year administrative experience at a U.S. intensive English language program. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required for successful performance include:
willingness to travel regularly as needed for recruitment, marketing, and oversight of IELI offshore satellite programs; competency in cross-cultural communication and negotiation skills; experience in supervising diverse staff and experience in overseas teaching or administration.
